Don’t Cry For Me Argentina
“..One reason “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” is a fascinating song is that it resonates so much in an era when women are entering and operating in the public arena at last; an arena whose rules, like the song, are written by men. The song’s mix of empathy, spin and steel, though, is not specifically ‘feminine’ – it’s just modern. ”

I think most people including myself thought Madonna was the first singer for this song. But apparently Julie Covington played the first Evita. But from that website (linked to Tom), his favourite version is by Sinead O Connor because she sings it in a way that “you can’t tell if she’s singing as herself or Evita, about herself or Evita, or whether she’s singing a performance about performance itself”.
After watching that video, I didn’t exactly felt the way he did. But after reading the history of Sinead O Connor and her controversial acts that got her into so much trouble, I watched the video again and this time, I did feel it.
P.S – Evita is the second wife of President Juan Domingo Peron and the First Lady of Argentina. She was given the title “Spiritual Leader of the Nation” by the Argentine Congress and remains an idol to any in their country. Although there’s allegations that claimed the Perons are fascists.
